High-frequency Performance of Ground Rods in Highly Resistive Soil

چکیده

Some of the design requirements for power transmission line grounding in highly resistive soil to reduce lightning flashback rate are often contradictory, such as: low values of both low-frequency ground resistance and high-frequency (HF) ground impedance. Former requires larger dimensions of the grounding electrodes that lead to higher values of their HF impedance due to inductive effects. Paper investigates dominant parameters that govern HF behavior of long ground rods in highly resistive soil, and proposes arrangements of grounding electrodes for better HF performance. Comparison between field measurements and rigorous and simplified theoretical results is also presented.

Frequency Domain Gpr Signal Forward and Inverse Modelling for Identifying the Subsurface Dielectric Properties

Research has focused on the development of a new integrated approach including ground penetrating radar (GPR) design, GPR signal forward modelling, and GPR signal inversion to estimate the dielectric permittivity and electric conductivity of the shallow subsurface. We propose to use an ultrawide band (UWB) stepped frequency continuous wave (SFCW) radar combined with an offground monostatic tran...

Uncertainty in fundamental natural frequency estimation for alluvial deposits

Seismic waves are filtered as they pass through soil layers, from bedrock to surface. Frequencies and amplitudes of the response wave are affected due to this filtration effect and this will result in different ground motion characteristics. Therefore, it is important to consider the impact of the soil properties on the evaluation of earthquake ground motions for the design of structures. Soil ...

Application of Single-Frequency Time-Space Filtering Technique for Seismic Ground Roll and Random Noise Attenuation

Time-frequency filtering is an acceptable technique for attenuating noise in 2-D (time-space) and 3-D (time-space-space) reflection seismic data. The common approach for this purpose is transforming each seismic signal from 1-D time domain to a 2-D time-frequency domain and then denoising the signal by a designed filter and finally transforming back the filtered signal to original time domain. ...

Validation of ground penetrating radar full-waveform inversion for field scale soil moisture mapping

Ground penetrating radar (GPR) is an efficient method for soil moisture mapping at the field scale, bridging the scale gap between small-scale invasive sensors and large-scale remote sensing instruments. Nevertheless, commonly-used GPR approaches for soil moisture characterization suffer from several limitations and the determination of the uncertainties in GPR soil moisture sensing has been po...

Design Spectrum for Near Fault Ground Motions Considering Frequency-Dependence of CH/SC Material Behavior Regarding Laboratory and Field Shear Wave Velocity (Vs)

Introduction One-dimensional site response analysis is widely performed to account for local site effects during an earthquake. Most of these approaches assume that dynamic soil properties are frequency independent. Laboratory test results as well as in-situ testing show that shear modulus and damping ratio are dependent on the frequency of loading. Although the amplification factor at ground ...
